Hope everyone learns from my mistake. I've been cleaning the old 2N, readying for paint job. I've had all the parts off and painting one-by-one. This past week, lost my entire barn and all the parts to a fire. My wife and I managed to drag the chassis/engine assembly out by hand, but all the parts are fried. The fire chief attributed it to spontaneous combustion in the garbage can, due to solvents used to clean the parts. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. I thought I was, but must have thrown one in the trash instead of the woodstove. Now's time to inventory and reorder all those parts. Fortunately, we're covered on insurance. Another point-the agent said since my tractor was used to maintain my property, it was covered under the homeowners. If I had used it for agriculture, it would need a separate listing on the policy. Just hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. Take care!!

Someone should have told my brother to be careful. Back in the sixties he and another fellow poured five gallons of gas into a groundhog hole to flush the hog out. They lit it off and almost killed our Jack Russell terrier, and both fools lost their eyebrows and some head hair. My dad whacked him good, then laughed about it. Sometimes things are accidental, and sometimes things happen from lack of thought. I don't think my brother was careless around solvents anymore..... Now about the time I accidently made a flame thrower out of a can of ether..... ...nuff said.

How easy it is to make an error, I too have had an incident that I learned from. I live on a city lot with an outside garage that I too cleaned up a few parts in a coffee can of solvent. One day while welding outside, a good 15 feet outside the door, 25 feet from the can of solvent, I happen to glance inside the garage to notice that the can was on fire. I grabbed the can and brought it outside to toss it in to a pail of water. After tossing it in to the pail I noticed that to was mistake as the solvent came to the top and spilled over on to the driveway with flame following the solvent to the outside drain beside the garage door. Luckily I had an old canvas tarp that I was able to throw over the flame and extinguish the fire before any damage was done. This time I was lucky, I am better prepared now and considered myself lucky. Sorry to hear about your tractor, hopefully we all learn from someone else's errors.
Stan

Sorry to hear about that Ron. What a tragedy. Amazing story about you and wife pulling out the chasis, etc.!!!! Sounds like you're going to have a happy ending, as much as you can.
