Well I have started to install a side pulley unit on my super 77 that didn't have one. Unit has fill plug in top and drain plug at lowest cavity so I would think with the seal out on that sleeve on the main input shaft you just fill it with gear oil. But if you did it would still drain into rearend because the bearing behind the new drive gear on input shaft has no seals and always got it's oil from splashing around tranny. So if you can tell me how much oil it takes? Just enough to stay in that cavity and be slung by the input driven gear? Thanks for any help

Belt pulley assy gets the lube from the rear diff of tractor.Fill rear to full level and the belt pulley assy will have required lube.

Do you have a service manual? Would really come in handy.

Thanks, so when I removed the old cover off the input shaft oil should have run out? I changed the oil in rearend and put in 18 qts like the I&T book said but I just rebuilt the hydraulic unit and I can tell you that you would have to add another 40 qts to get up that full. Am I looking at the wrong oil capacities? Thanks again

I'm pretty sure we always dumped in a 5 gal bucket of gear oil.No oil shouldn't run out of the cover.

Well 5 gallons would only be 3 more qrts so it would still be about 8 inches below that input shaft bearing. Just now I found something talking about plugging a 1/4" hole when removing a pulley unit to build a puller, so is there a pipe plug maybe at the lowest spot that would be in line with the pulley box cavity that I need to remove? I'm looking now. Thanks again,Jeff

Thanks mike, I just got the tractor all tore apart and cleaned up. I found the oil plug that has to be removed, it is just above the rail detent block. I have to laugh when people say OLIVER was ahead of there time. After seeing the inside of the pulley unit all tore apart and how the inside of the tranny works it was amazing this was built over 50 years ago! The gears in the trans act as slingers and put the oil up into a channel drain that comes out the plugged hole and into the cavity in the lower part of pulley unit then it drains back into the trans threw the front main bearing. The pulley engagement gear slings the oil up into a trough that drains to the very front top and drips onto the beveled gears then all that oil drains back to the trans. All that's left to do is get everything out of the parts washer and put back together and painted. Sure is alot of work for something that probably will never even get used because I am afraid the belt would shift over and scratch my paint! LOL Well thanks for your info, Jeff OLIVERS RULE

Take a board and bolt it on the front cultivator mounting pad and make sure it is thick enough that the belt cant hit the front and you may have to do the same at the back to keep it out of the tin work at the back this works on a WD45 so I dont know why it would not work on an Oliver that is a super or a 3digit with the bolt holes in the frame
