As long as the generator charges enought to put the light out it will go out. It does not mean the charging system is working at the correct spec. First thing I would do is check the generator , clean the armature with sand paper, double check the fan belt and the pulleys, make sure the belt is not running in the bottom of the groove, get a voltmeter and then test the unit. Do you mean one or two batteries also take th same voltmeter and check for voltage drop in all your connections. Confused?

I have alredy taken the starter and the generator apart cleaned and checked the armature out in both I have not checked the voltage becous the day I was working on it I found that the meter was left on and our modern tecnolighy has to have good batteries the tractor is gas one (looks like a car batery under the hood like it is supost to be) if I remember right it has a new belt that is riding high on the pully but that might be the power stering I will have to check I was afrade the idiot light was not a sher way of knowing wat was actualy going on I have a papor that was in with another voltage regulator I got for another tractor and it said to ground one termanal and read acros the other asuming you have to disconect it I was going to check that out I also question the regulator becous it is old the ruber mount is about roted out but looked good on the inside can you put a amp meter in there and not afect the light and leave it there
thanks
