Hello folks:

There is going to be an auction close to me here in a few weeks and they have a few tractors I may be interested in for antique speed pulling. I"m a JD man so I dont know a whole lot about these old olivers. The only thing I know are that they"re in original running condition.

There are 2 Oliver 770"s, 1 with 3 point hitch.

There is 1 oliver super 88 diesel with a wide front end.

What are the value"s of these (rough prices, as I don"t even know what year they are)? Did they have power steering? What does it take to convert one of these from a wide front to narrow? Would any of these have the hydra power?

Thanks,

John

Well the 770 came with a lot of options, some did have power steering, and a mechanical early version of the hydra power drive. This was operated be a lever similar to the gear shift lever except it was on the left side of the steering wheel. The Later 770 (with a checker board fiberglass grill) I think are worth more. If they are in good running condition with a good working 3PT I would expect to pay around $2500 - $3000 of course depending on the normal tractor things (Tires, sheet metal, etc..) As for the 88 diesel they are a very strong tractor. We have an 880 D and a 1600 D same engine more or less. The one thing to take into consideration is the injector pump. The price to rebuild them keeps going up (about $1000 to $1200). My opinion I would expect to pay $1500 - $2000 for an 88D. To change out a wide front to a narrow piece of cake! The whole steering box comes off with the front end. The tube frame has the holes needed to axcept a wide front or a narrow front. Hope this helps there I sure will be other opinions.
