My 2255 is loosing hyd oil into the rear end. I had the pto rebuilt with new seals last year as I was loosing a small amount but now its 1-2 qts a hour. I'm woundering what the odds are that it's the hyd pump vs the pto? It does not seem to make any difference with the pto on or off. Do these vickers pumps leak internaly?

Your PTO clutch brake piston could be cracked leaking oil into the rear. Seen that happen before. Try running it with the PTO in the neutral position and see if it still looses oil. Does yours have the oil cooler circulator pump behind the hydraulic pump or belt driven by the engine? That could be another possibility. Does it loose oil with the engine not running? Hydraulic pump would probably leak with the engine off since it is gravity fed, but maybe pressure might aggrevate the problem

Had that problem with my 1855. Couldn't decide on the pump, the PTO or the pan so just did them all. Pump was by far the most expensive at $400. I'm just finishing up now and I think the problem was around the pan. Someone before me has replaced it once and didn't get the gaskets in right. Right above the pump the gasket was in just along the outside edge allopwing oil to leak around the bolts into the pan. Putting those gaskets (2 of em) is not easy. Suggestion put them on the rear end first, make sure the hydl resevoir is empty so oil doesn't wash the gaskets out of place when you set it down.

There may be a very small hole in the pan that holds the hyd. fluid above the rear.
