Can anyone give me some advice... I have a 1550, not sure of the year, and the fireing order seems to be differant than the manual says. does anyone know the correct foreing order. the manual says it is: 1-5-3-6-2-4. This is not the correct order.
Also, I believe it has jumped time and I need to remove the timing cover. is there any shafts I need to be concerned about when I remove the governer housing. if anyone has any specs, or diagrams of the timing marks and where they need to line up, I would appreciate the help. thanks.

I have a 1550 G and the firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4. This is assuming you have the original 232 cubic inch engine. Unless you have some reason to believe the camashaft timing is off in relation to the crankshaft, I would leave the front cover alone and concentrate on the distributor.
As I recall, the bottom of the distributor is driven by a flat male tongue going into a female groove in the top of the oil pump. This means the distributor can only be inserted correctly, or 180 degrees out. The oil pump is gear driven from near the center of the camshaft, therefore, for correct timing, the oil pump gear has to be timed with the cam gear. If anyone pulled the oil pump for some reason and did not know this upon re-assembly, it could mess you up. On a row crop, the pan can be pulled with the engine sitting in the frame. I would go through the old process (maybe you already have) of getting the number one piston up at TDC on compression and taking a look at your distributor rotor position before pulling the pan. Hope this helps. dwm

I've never had any experience with the 1550. All the other six cylinder oliver engines are 153624. I would think your 1550 would also be the same.

I agree with above posts. If oil pump is removed it can change timing. The distributor can be put in last, but the pump can be inserted correct by turning the shaft 1/4 turn backwards from where it should be.The gears will turn it that much when inserting. The slot is offcenter so it only matches the dist. in one place. If timing is off you can turn the dist.around . I would time as above posts say and check for loosenes at dist.
