Just bought a 1948 88 Standard, from the orginal owner. He tells me the 6 banger engine is made by Chevy. Is this true?? Can Chevy parts be used in this engine??

Also is there a place to get NOS steering wheels for this tractor??

Thanks!! AJ

I just overhauled my 88 and it used standard Chevy valve guides. I do not know about the other parts as I got those through the Oliver supply house.

Guess the distributor is a Chevy too. Or did Delco become part of GM later in life??

The enginge is ia Waukesha design engine built by Oliver. As far as I know there is nothing in common with a Chevrolet. It is possible that someone scabbed a Chevy into it at some point in time. We had a neighbor that put a 6 cylinder Chevy in a Massey Harris (I forget which model).

Do you still have the original steering wheel. If so try Minn-Kota Repair. Call 605-432-4315 or 320-839-3940.

No, it's the orginal Oliver engine in it, it wasn't swapped out.

Still have the orginal steering wheel, but after 52 years in the weather, it's well cracked!! Thanks for the numbers!! I'll follow up on them tomorrow.

The engines used in the 66, 77, and 88 were jointly made by Oliver and Waukesha. Unless Chevy used Waukesha engines, I don't think there is anything in common...

Thanks Steve, I was having a hard time believing it be the same as a Chevy.
