I have a 1265 Oliver that I have had for about a year. It has got some trouble in the transmission , clutch, or something.
1. When engaging the PTO lever, it is very difficult to get it in gear. This occurs even with the engine at a slow idle speed, the tractor completely stopped, and the foot clutch fully engaged. My question is this, when the clutch (it only has one at the foot control) is engaged, should the gear stop turning that the PTO slides onto??
2. A couple of times when the tractor gets really hot, bushhogging or something, the transmission will begin to make noises like a gear is just about to be thrown through the floor. This noise stops when the tractor stops. After the tractor sits for a while, the noise stops. The noise is very inconsistent... it has only happened a couple of times, and only when the tractor is hot and under a heavy load. What could be causing the problem? How can I diagnose it and correct it??

3. The Oliver 1265 doesn't appear to be a very popular tractor. Where can I get any information about it? Does anyone have one that can share some info?

4. Is there any mail order company that carries a large supply of rebuilt and new parts for Olivers, specifically the 1265?

5. What is a good source for a shop and service manual for the Oliver 1265? It looks like I'm going to be doing a lot of the work myself!

Thanks.

I had a 1265 oliver a couple of years ago. I myself also relize they are not very popular but I liked them. I am almost certain that the PTO shaft should still turn when the clutch is engaged. As for the the trouble you have with the PTO going in gear that probly has something to do with the noise that comes from the trasmission. A good shop that knows a lot about the Oliver tractor is Rabon's Inc. You can get an address and phone number by looking them up on the web. They are really good. If you call ask for Larry. Hope this info helps.

The 1265 was made by Fiat (Fix It Again Tony) for Oliver. It has the reputation of being the least reliable of the breed. (the 1365 is an excellent tractor and made by Fiat also) Parts are available and I would start with Miabach Tractor in Ohio. Most counter people will RUN at the mention of "1-2-6-5". As for your Sx, they had a three position PTO lever. Center is neutral, one way is live and the other is ground drive. Cross your fingers, think only pure thoughts, have your toes pointed east and pray the problem is just that you have it in the ground drive mode. Try pulling it in the other direction and see if this solves the problem. If it does, it isn't a clean bill of health, but will probably give you some extended use of the tractor. Also, drain and refill the transaxle to make sure it isn't 1/2 full of water. Also, Fiat made the same tractor painted orange with A-C's name on it. I can't remember the # off the top of my head, but if there is an AC dealer near that hasn't been drug under by AGCO, you might be able to access parts there, but don't hold your breath...

tractor also produced as Minneapolis - Moline G-350, Cockshutt 1265 & White 1270 in Canada. If you don't want to keep it, you can give it to me, I'm starting to farm, & need all the help I can get. :>) I've never worked on them , sorry I can't diagnose for you. Best of luck, MAJ

I don't know if that would be considered help...
If you have to choose one of the newer Oliver tractors, I can highly recomend the 1365. It has a ballanced diesel that will hum along for a long time. Some in this area have 9000+ hours on them and never been opened up. They make a great loader tractor with power steering and all...

I have Fiat shop manual for 1365 I may be convinced to part with. Don't know how compatable it is to the 1265.
