I apppreciate any reply in this matter. I went to view an advertised Oliver model 1950 in the paper that stated the tractor needed work. I arrive and it is more of a pile than a tractor. The asking price is 2,000 which is too much, but is it worth offering say 800 while in its current disassembly I cannot tell if motor, transmission, or hydraulics work?
Thank you,
Aaron

If this is the tractor you want it could be of valuable as a parts tractor after you find a working model. At the scrap metal yard it's worth about $ 40.00/t to sell to buy from the same scrap yard you'd pay $.10/# negotiate any where in between.

I believe I would walk away from this situation. Just too many unknowns: Detroits sort of known for cracked heads if operator doesn't know how to run them, hydraulic pumps are expensive, over and under not that expensive to fix unless you need the whole deal, had a 2255 that just totally destroyed one, even the case was not salvageable. There are others out there, be patient, something better will come along.

that tractor is what we in the business call salvage tractor, can be repaired but will cost more than its value(IN THEROY) i have rebuilt some salvage tractors.and did ok on them its value is 800-1000.id shoot at 500 first when he asks 2000 say "where are the other 3 tractors"

Thanks Tommy, I appreciate your advice. I have restored only old Farmalls and was unsure about how to play ball with these big machines.
