1550 Flooding

When I use my gas powered 1550 for short periods of time, and turn it off, and then try to start it soon after, the carburator frequently floods. If I'm not on level ground, I don't like to let it idle, because I'm afraid it will roll, so I turn it off, put the loader down, set the brake, and put it in gear opposite to the way it can roll. I can't do all that if it's idling. Is this a common problem? How can I prevent it from happening? Does my carburator need to be rebuilt?

Thanks!!!

Either your low idle screw needs adjustment, the needle & seat needs replacement, or you need repair or adjust the choke. Descibe what happens when you say it is flooded. Does fuel run out of the carburetor? If so, the needle valve is not seating and both needle & seat should be replaced. If it is just not getting proper fuel mixture, get it running and turn the low idle screw in until it starts running poorly, then back it out until it idles properly. Is the choke butterfly open? If not, the cable or linkage should be checked. Good luck.
Your brakes should probably be checked to make you comfortable with setting them to be able to leave it running while parked.

Thanks for the reply!

The engine normally runs fine, it's just a probably when I run it for a short time, turn it off, and start it again. Soemtimes gas does drip from the carb when it floods, and you can smell gas even if it doesn't drip. And the butterfly is open.
