Is there any way of testing fuel gauge sending unit on an 1850.
When the tractor starts fuel gauge goes all the way over to full any suggestions?

Disconnect wire going to sending unit and gauge should register empty, if it does the problem is sending unit. If still shows full the wire from sending unit to gauge is probaly shorted.

I always purchase my gauges and replacement sending units from Frank W Muprhy out of Tulsa,OK
It may be listed as FWMurphy and they do have a decent web site. They have been in business for a very long time and sell industrial engine controls and safety shutdowns.

I can buy Industrial products from them for about half of what the auto parts stores and boat places sell them for.

If the gauge consistently registers too high, the cause could be:

1 Poor connection between gauge and connecting wire,
2 Broken connecting wire. 3 Poor ground at sending unit.
4 Failure of gauge or sender, usually the sender.
