Hello,
I am looking to buy some cheap horsepower to pull some heavy tillage. Found a 2655 for $5,500. It is HUGE but is it a decent machine? what forward speeds and what to look for in such a giant machine?
thanks,
aaron

These are Moline A4T-1600's with green and white paint.

Which engine? Some had 585 molines. The Molines do not like to start and had the valve dropping problem on the early motors. Their fuel economy is not the best but boy do they lug. An old boy by me has one in his yard, when he gets his big 4wd Case stuck he fires up the Ollie (by pull starting it with a 1655) and pulls the 'toy' out. He reports he has never managed to get it stuck, even in areas his newer machines go down in. He even has used it to pull start a Cat D6 dozer (he propped the blade up when he shut the dozer off and so was able to pull it).

of course, his son worked at the local dealership and rebuilt the motor for him.

Where is the one you know of at?

I appreciate your comments. The consenus is that the machine is a mechanical nightmare which I don't want to mess with.

RUN....DON'T WALK!

I like Olivers, since I own one (a 1655), however every manufacturer had their problem tractors.

One of my neighbors had a 2655. I don't remember all the specific problems, except that it was rarely seen in the field. Every time I visited him, it was tore down for some reason or other. He called me, very elated one day, indicating he had found someone to purchase it!

Well I could spend lots of time telling about all the problems I have had.The big trouble now is they are hard to start. When my father was alive we just pulled it and if we had to go 2 miles we did.I have had valves break and drop into the pistons 3 times, make sure you have the new valves for the 2-150 before you run it.There allso was the oil pump drive problem that caused the crank to size when it broke, don't run without the external pump and check valve installed.hydrolics cause problems too,I have the closed center system.Everything is operated by push/pull cables and they stick or break.Parts are hard to come by and electrical problems plage it too.no problems with the axels or trans except that there is really only one gear you can use in the field, the rest are too fast or slow.
