Can I talk you out of a snowblower? They are lousy when it's windy, can't handle drifts, need lots of maintenance, and are very expensive.

I plow lots of deep snow with my 1650G. I use a loader and box blade. I can push 18" of standing snow at barely above idle speeds, handle any size drifts with the loader, wind doesn't matter, and the whole deal is as reliable as an anvil. I suspect you can easily buy a loader and box blade for 1/2 of what a blower costs.

Everybody up here with lots of road uses a similar setup for snow removal. Except for one neighbor who uses his D8!

My loader was fine until we got 7' of snow. Yeah, I live well south of buffalo NY. The banks just got too high last year, so I thaught maybe a blower would help clear the way. I appreciate the advice, though. Life's kinda different when you wake up and lake erie has a suprise for you(ha ha)

It's nice to have a snowblower a little wider than the tractor. That said, my 7 foot takes all of my 120 HP. I tried to use my 7 foot on a 85 HP tractor; didn't work too good. If your snow doesn't get over 6 inches deep you're probably ok with either.

I had an 8ft single stage blower on a 2135 White. Deep snow would use all the horses the tractor had so put it on my 2255, still not enough power for deep snow, needed to slip clutch or stop to let the blower clear of snow. I have a 48inch Woods rear blower on a Kubota 24HP with hydrostatic drive and can move steady through 12inches of snow. Delbert

I have a 1600 oliver(65hp its putin out) and i have used a brand new 8 foot single auger provo blower on it for two years doing about 9 acres of apartment building asphalt parking lots. These new blowers take so much less horse power the 1600 handles it, although i wont say easily.I use to have a 10 year old 6 ft. allied single auger which seem to take more power than the new 8 ft. I also have a 8 foot blade on the front which is really handy, but ya gotta have that blower to keep the banks down

That's what is really nice about a blower-no banks. A few years ago the county abandoned a mile long road that ran between my cousin's farms, so they kept it open with their snowblower on the back of their tractor. The deepest the snow got on the sides of the road was 3 to 4 feet. The banks got 10 to 15 feet where the county plowed, then they called in the huge blowers.

I use 770 wheatland and 7 foot single auger Hagedorn [local made] blower in ontario canada east side of Lake Huron . We are 2 miles from lake huron that has 45 miles of lake from Michigan to pick up moisture before dumping in my lane. 770 will walk though 12 inchs of snow at -20F and put it 20 feet away but at 32 F 2 inchs would be hard pressed to get 2 feet. Temperature and snow conditions make big differance on blower vs. loader usage. Ground drifting here would leave me in the house for the winter with a loader .
