I was driving my 70 the other day and it coughed, sputtered and died. I could get it to restart but it would only run for a few seconds then died again. I pulled it home, lifted the side panel and gas was just gushing from the carb., I don't think the float is stuck what else could it be? I'm not a real good mechanic, but I'm willing to learn. Any ideas?

Well it has to be either the float and or the float seat. Since the float cotrols the flow of gas in the carb. You may have some dirt in the float seat keeping it open so the engine floods. Open up the carb and clean the float seat and make sure the float works like it should. You may also before opening it up tap on the side of the carb, some times doing that will knock free what ever is stopping the float seat from seating right. Hope this helps you

You were right. The float was stuck. Thanks!
