I looked at one today and was wondering if anyone had ideas as what it might be worth. It has 2233 hours showing on the tach which has been replaced so I'm guessing it must have a good 5000 hours on it. It has a cab with fender tanks. The 3208 Cat seems kind of loud to me, but I've never heard one before so have no frame of reference. It came with a 3150 but it was replaced with a used 3208 out of a combine. The tires are pretty much shot, all the way around. Some guages work and some don't. He was asking $10,000 and came down to $9500. Does that seem like a reasonable price?

Also, he has a White 2-180 4wd for sale. Not sure on the particulars but it seems like someone was just looking for one.

As soon as I get it figured out I will have some pics to show.

Well, thank you for all your comments. I came a little too close to offering him $9k for comfort, it would appear. Guess I'll have to pass on that one and wait for another 1850. Too bad he already sold his. A day late and a dollar short, ain't that always the way?

That's too much in my opinion. I paid $6,900 for mine in 1997 generaly good conditon 3,900 hrs, had duals, fender tanks and AC cab at the time. Every thing worked but the ac needed to be charged. If the 3 speed hasn't been rebuilt you can figure $4,000+ to do it right and probably soon. I've been through mine except the engine and hyd's. For the most part mine has been maintained very well and at 4,800 hrs having never been turned up I would say my take on these is the 3 speed and some transmission components are beyond there limit at stock hp. DO NOT turn them up or buy one that has been turned up. Alot of guys see the planitary rear end and think capasity to spair. The rear end is not the week link. One of the week links is the sun gear plantitary carrier in the 3 speed. It cannot handle the hp + vibration of the V8 cat often spliting at the sun gear shaft hole and very often the gears flake off (pit from too much toque for gear surface area). Also mine flaked off 3 rd and 4 th gear as have several others I know of. Throw in poor maintance and the insides of these can look terrible and become a deep money pit fast. They are not cheap to fix. Very nice tractor if caired for. Don't know what else to tell you but be cairfull. A photo of mine as it is now if it works about the same outside condition as it was when I bought it less the cab. I have approximatly 12,000 stuck in it now. Good luck.

The 2-180 is near Utica, NY. Email me and I will get you his phone number. He didn't have a price on it yet but my guess is he will want over $15,000. But that's just my guess, I could be off by a factor of ten. :)

Man down the road had a 2255 cab no MFWD, darn near new looking 3500 hours for $10,000. A couple of years ago I saw one that needed ether on a 60 degree day for $5250, and I'm still glad I didn't buy it.

I'd say pass on the one you're showing until $7500. The MFWD is nice but I'm not sure it makes up for the rest of the tractor.

Hello, I have experience with both of these tractors, the 2255 had problems with valves bending, if it is a replacement engine you might not have this problem, the other tractor I have had experience driving, drove good and had a lot of power, it was a little noisy in the cab,I would test drive it if you were thinking of buying, also had air conditioning problems.

I think I'd pass on the Oliver at those prices. As others have pointed out the 3208 was known as a "throw away" engine. The White is probably 10 years newer (the red stripe whites were built starting in 82/83), and would be a much nicer tractor. I can't say much for the Cat engine, I've never been impressed with the little Cat V8's. You didn't say what he's asking for the White, but I bet it's a lot more than $10k.

Jake, a couple things to consider; the 3208 was built as a sleeveless engine. Many have been bored and sleeved. If this runs ok and has been sleeved, it could save you some bucks in the long run. The condition of the tractor (2255) as you described it sounds like the asking price is still too high, the repair of the mfwa can get pricy. On the White 2-180, you said 4 wheel drive. Is that front wheel assist or is it a 4-180.
I bought a 4-180, engine and drive train in good cond., 40% rubber, no duals and rough inside and outside for $3K at auction this fall, don't know just yet if I got a heck of a deal or a hunk of junk. Good luck, Larry

Unless you're more severly addicted to Meadow Green paint than the rest of us here, buy the 2-180. The only thing it won't do that the 2255 can is have 540 pto. Heavier trans& rear end, much heavier Over/Under, quieter cab, better seat, better hydraulic system with charge pump.
