1850 oil leak

I have an Oliver 1850 with a Perkins diesel that leaks oil between the manifold and the muffler when idling for long periods of time. It makes a mess of the right side of the engine. It starts and runs fine, and only smokes a little when cold, but clears up fine when at operating temperature.

Is the oil leakage normal, or is it an indicator of something going wrong?

Dale

My 1850 did the same thing when I first bought it, slobber. It was leaking by the exhaust manifold gasket. I retorqued the manifold and put it to some hard work. I also used Power Services in the fuel, helps clean the injectors. Also on that side the valve cover was leaking. I didn't find the exhaust leak until I fixed the valve cover problem. What a mess! Sounds to me like it is "slobbering". Needs to be worked hard like on a plow or disk or a good PTO load. I"ve seen several tractors that would do this.
