I have a 1650 diesel with a Farmhand loader and have been having problems lifting 1200-1300 lbs round bales with the spear on the loader. Is this too much weight for the hydraulics of this tractor or is my pump getting weak? I changed the fluid and filter this summer. Any other possible adjustments? Thanks is advance, Randy

Thanks Sam, I think I will get a remote lever to run the loader and set it up with the power beyond. I seen a nice photo of how to do that in the archives.

Write if you have any questions . The biggest problem my brother and I had was removing the pipe plugs from the tractor top . We ended up having to heat the plugs and the area around them with a torch to break them loose . Also helps to have an air compressor and 1/2 inch air wrench with correct size allen which will fit in the pipe plugs . Let me know how things go .

I can lift the bales with the 3 point with no problem at all. The loader is hooked into the remotes on the back of the tractor. This is the first time I have tried with the loader, always used the 3 point before. It will raise them about 3-4 feet and then no higher. Steering seems just fine when I am trying to raise a bale. Sorry I didnt leave many details in my first post. Thanks again for any more advice. Randy

Given your description that everything else is operating , I do not think it is your hydraulic pump . If you have a separate valve for the loader (joy stick type set up ) , is it open center ? If sep valve , may need to check adjustment on that valve . If running loader straight off the remotes , do you have them set up for double acting cylinder ? Also I think the 1650 has flow adjustments on the remote lines which you might want to check . I think you might want to look into a power beyond set up which will require a separate valve for the loader .

I guess the first question is did this start recently or is it something which has been going on since you put the loader on the tractor ? If it is something that has always been a problem , you could check the pressure relief value and try adjusting the shims . IF it is something which started recently , that makes it seem like the pump is going bad .

Do you have loader operating off hyd remotes or does it have its own value ? If you are running it off remotes , you could get a separate value for the loader and do a power beyond set up . BUT some on this site have said on prior occassions that power beyond set up should not make a difference on either flow or pressure of fluid . If the loader has its own value , they typically have flow adjustments on the value itself which might help .

YOu do not really describe the exact problem . IS the loader not picking up the bale at all , is it picking it up off the ground and then stopping at a certain point , is it picking it up too slowly to suit you , is it picking it up stopping and the starting again ? Is the steering still operating ? How about the three point hitch . Have you tried picking up a bale with the three point hitch instead of the loader ? Some of these may give us a clue as to what is going on .

Sam,
you gave me a lot of help on our reworking the setup on our 1655 - going to power beyond. and i can say very positively that the loader works faster and smoother now than it did before working off the tractor remotes. just my opinion, but thats what we found.

and thanks again for that help you gave me. John

Glad I could help but I learned how to do the power beyond set up from this web site , primarily Mr. BA Star . He deserves the credit .

Just a guess but I would say your pump or some other part is going south on you.
