The OC3 I bought in Sept has worked out well for what I intended it for, the loader has saved a lot of lifting and time. However, the more I use it the more I like it except for as previously noted for some work it is geared high. Just out of curiousity, has anyone used anything besides a Model A Ford transmission as an auxilliary?

There may be other ways to go, but the Model A looks like the easiest. There was an article in the HPOCA magazine a couple years ago about making an adapter, out of a piece of well casing and a steel ring. Looked pretty easy. And there are Model A transmissions all over the place. To find one, just contact your local hot rod club- every guy driving a chopped A coupe has one in the back corner of his garage.

Sounds like your in the same boat as I am, I've been trying to figure out how to add an Aux tranny but what I want to add is to big.( Aux tranny from an old gas burner twin screw truck.) Oh well one of these days I'll figure some thing out, or maybe some one here will give you and me other ideas.

I thought it would be kind of interesting to use some kind of an automatic transmission if possible and say it was a power shift, lol. An associate of mine came up with the suggestion of repowering with a Subaru engine and transaxle, wouldn"t that make a unique sounding machine? In the meantime, I have located a model A transmission with bell housing but have yet to get it home. Before I get into this I think I will put some money into the engine, no use having all those gears without something good supplying the power.

Some guys have done exactly that. One that I know of had an older crawler, fairly large (I'm thinking a TD-14, or something equivalent)- put a Chevy V-8 in it, with automatic trans behind, and ran a driveshaft to the input of the original crawler transmission. Locked out everything but first and reverse on the auto trans, and could "select" a range by using a different gear in the crawler trans. Biggest problem was setting up a decelerator- you need to idle down the engine when shifting. He figured out some kind of linkage to do it, whenever he moved the shift lever from forward to reverse. The thing was a workin' fool, and he cleared a lot of land with it. It was a little thirsty, though, as I recall.

I have an HG also that I have been thinking about putting a continel 6 cylinder in to, it has a continel 4 in it now which is wrong so it will not be a big deal since its not original any way.
