seems like everyone wants to know what something is worth on this Oliver board now days....I guess the best advice to anyone interested in buying something is that if someone is asking a price and it seems somewhat inline, just take it. Dont be posting about every darn thing and "whats its worth" Its worth whatever you want to pay, honestly! Sorry about the post, just me venting...

I own several makes of tractors and talked on the discussion forums for those makes and never had a problem. I apologize for not knowing what a 770 is worth. It would have been my first Oliver. I thought that was what this forum was all about. I was into street rods for better than 25 years until money took over the hobby. I found that tractor people would give you the time of day and then some, even if they were working in a field or telling you in detail about what they had to do to there Hi-Crop to restore it. Sorry about the whining--- I had no idea.

Hey Blue, you werent whinning, not at all. It was others who suggested the price of olivers was being inflaited by greedy people, and they were forced to suffer the concequences. Its just that some of us think that "whats it worth" is an impossible question to answer. No, i dont restore tractors for a living. I do it as a hobby and it consumes every spare moment i have. I just get annoyed when i see people saying a 770 oliver(one of the best they ever made) shouldnt be worth more than 2500, when i see a hand crank for a john deere G selling on ebay for that much. Maybe it would be nice if we had a price guide on here somewhere and when that question comes up, we could just direct them to the proper link. Thanks And sorry, i just get frustrated when people demand the best and want it for nothing.

Don't stop asking questions. Most of us enjoy reading others opinions. I know that "Tractor Fan" posts a lot on here too and is a big help. As far as pricing tractors, it is like Astrology. It should have a disclaimer " for entertainment purposes only", because it can vary so much depending on so many things. I live in BC and have never seen another Super 55 anywhere in the Fraser valley of BC. I am sure there are some around, but where I don't know. I know Stu in BC has one about a days drive from here. Now with that said, that doesn't make my tractor worth alot except to me. However, if I lived where they are more prevelent then naturally the price should reflect that. Like location, same goes with condition of the tractor and extras it might have on it . I am getting a bit long winded, but I hope that explains why some people might get tired of people asking what something is worth. Like Red Green a great Candadian says" hang in there, I'm pulling for you, we're all in this together"

The ability to tap into all the experience and knowledge here is immeasurable . I think they call this a DISCUSSION board . That , to me , implies a back and forth question and answer session . Newbies like myself benefit from this . If some of you more experienced tractor buffs are impatient with those of us that don't know much about tractors ( I was born and raised in a big city in MO , I'm now 48 yrs old and bought my first tractor last April ) then how do you suppose that all your hard earned knowledge will be passed on ? Sorry now I'm venting . Randy-IA

Please don't cut someone down for asking a question. That's what this discussion board is all about, questions, answers and opinions. I've been around tractors and farming for over 40 years and I still learn something new everyday. Alot of times it is from someone on this YT site asking a question. If a guy wants to know the value of a tractor he is looking to buy, why not try to get as much information as possible. What better way to get it.....from people who know. This forum has alot of knowledge and experience, let's put it to good use....by helping others.

Oh well, they don't bother me. I also look at the auction results. Could be beginners like myself that have little experience and just want someone to share some knowledge. Don't worry though, I won't be asking. When I bought my tractor I asked how much.. then said sure. First Super 55 I ever saw for sale.

Well my point is, just recently, some guys were whinning about having to pay more than $2500 for a good 770. On that same day, i sold a better than new 770 for $11,500.00. No big deal, both buyer and seller were very happy with transaction, but if i payed myself even $10/hour for the work that went into that tractor, i would probably have lost money on it. So were is the lodgic of trying to put a value on anything on here. Its totally in the eyes of the beholder.

I wasn't going to say anything but after thinkinh about it just have to
1) In my mind counting the time spent "restoring" an antique to better then new contition means your in the business and there are certainly other enterprises with a better return on investment. 2) If I sold a 40+ year old tractor for $11K I'd be smiling too.

That's a little much for me but the buyer has to know what he's willing to give.(evidently he's not married or money is not a problem). As far as prices go, where can you buy a 40 to 50 horse tractor for 2500? If it's been gone through, and I know there's some shady folks out there but I think one can tell when he looks at the tractor, what do later model 40 to 50 horse tractors bring? Most of the time four times that amount, not? So if it's a "ground up restoration", as nice as it seems, how can you tell what's been done? If it catches the buyers eye, if he really likes what he see's(and has the money) sell it for what ever he's willing too give. If I could get that for my tractor, I'd feel guilty, not for the price, but for not doing more to my project to command that kind of price. If someone could show receipts and photos of complete restoration and ask that price I hope he gets it. Too much time, money, patience, excuses,(to you know who) and aggravation go into restoration it's almost like losing an arm when you sell for less than even you have in parts! Sorry, just venting!!
