I'm woundering if I should have my injection pump looked at on my 3150. The govener is not responding at low rpms and very little at high rpms. It never was too good at low rpms but use to hold the high rpm range pretty good it also puts out more black smoke than it use to with less power or so it seems. New fuel and air filters make no difference. Starts good runs smooth. Any idea what these pumps cost to work on? Thanks.

Adam, I happen to have two extra 3150 pumps off of 2255's I would sell you one for $190. I would agree with previous post that it is in the Governor probably the races. I would not be scared to tackle myself, if it were me. ph785-899-4190

Sounds like the flyweights in the governor are about shot and the races they ride against. You could take the pump to a local Cat dealer or diesel shop and just get them to rebuild the governor. I don't know about other Cat dealers, but we still rebuild/repair all kinds of Cat injection pumps. They might also find a plunger sticking in a barrel causing the rack not to move freely. I never checked on a reman pump for the 3150, but I'm sure they can get parts. Don't want to scare you, but if the pump is responding that slowly, the rack could get stuck somewhere above idle causing the engine to runaway .
