I had posted a few weeks ago about a 6 row Oliver Unit 3 pt. Planter I was looking at. Well, I bought it, or actually the neighbor gave it to me. It really is a 7 row planter, 1 of the rows was taken off a while back. It has set outside for 5 years but is in pretty good shape for being outside. I am going to restore one unit at a time and make 2, 2 row 3 pt. planters and a couple of 1 rows for sweetcorn and keep one. It has AC row markers on it for some reason. I have a line on a local previous Oliver dealer that has some Oliver planters New Never Sold rusting away on the lot. Hopefully I can get 3 fiberglass bins I need(busted beyond repair). I bought some NOS Oliver decals on Ebay. Anybody know where I can find some pictures of Oliver planters on the web? The bottoms of the seed bins and the clamps to the tool bar are black, is that the orginal color? Local AGCO dealer is no help at all, out of Oliver paint. I got some Rustoleum Light Hunter green which seems close to OL green. It has Plastic Lustron bean plates now, looking for corn plates. I guy a got it from has a OL #540 I got the corn plate # off of it. Thanks for your help.

I have 4 new seed boxes complete, also have a White 543 plate planter complete needs some work but easily restored. I also have 2 new Oliver fiberglass fertilizer boxes. The corn plates you need are the same as John Deere plate planters.

I was lucky enough to find three seed "hoppers" and a whole mess of plates(probaly 50-75? of them) locally for $40 at an old dealer. One of the hoppers is NOS and has never had seed in it. Thanks anyway.

My fathers old 1971 543 planter has the black seed box bottems and some of the clamps black. On later planters they are all green, till white came along then they went all red.I still have the old planters and the manuels. The seed plates are the same as deere and you can buy all you want cheap at farm auctions as no one wants them.

First of all I am not a corn planter expert. Second we never sold a mounted planter. Now I think you have 343 units. The first planter of that type was the 540 which was available on a limited basis in 1962. It used cast plates. When improvements were made several years later the planter became the 543. One of those major improvements was a different plate drive which allowed the use of plastic plates. These plates will also interchange with some John Deere plates. You will need to look at the plate drive on the 540 if you are thinking of using that for parts. One is a 2 lug drive the other one a 3 lug. I have never heard the fertilizer hoppers called "bins" also are there provisions on the 343 for driving the fertilizer attachment. Remember 343 units drive off the press wheel and 543 or 540 units drive from the transport wheels.
Also the fertilizer attachment liquid or dry is driven off the transport wheels. Around here I just seen one of those pull type planters setting and dry fertilizer is a thing od the past. How many acres do you plan on planting with this unit? Questions?
