Check with Shep on this board about running higher power. There have been some recent discussions about repowering and tearing up rear ends that were not designed to handle it.

Is it gas or deisel? how much are you willing to spend? I put a 3 3/4 overbore in mine. Still isn't running yet so I can't say how much more power she has, but it'll be much more than what it was running at.

To answer your question, there wasn't one that Oliver offered, but you could maybe match one up off a car or something like that, although it would be a lot of time and money to go that route.

It is a diesel. I'm willing to put a fair amount into it but if it is going to be a good chunk I might as well look into finding a bigger Oliver maybe. Thanks

I'm not too familiar w/ deisels, but we do have a 1755(blown) and now an 1855. How much are you looking to get out of it? You may be able to put a head on from a later 1650 or 1655 w/ direct injection. The transmission for a 1600 won't be able to stand up to too much more HP, but I'd think it could stand 70-80 HP on a regular basis. There should also be a few tricks on the injection pump, but like I said I don't claim to know much about deisels. Others may have more usefull information.

Nothing wrong w/ finding a bigger Ollie either. then you can have 2 to play with, instead of just the 1600

one other question, Are you pulling, or just need a little more ooooomphda on the farm?

Don: a 1600 diesel and a 1650 diesel are two total different engines.

A Oliver 1600 diesel is indirect injection just like an Oliver 880 diesel. We put a turbo on a 880 and could not get more than 70 or 75hp. We turned the fuel up and it smoked black, turned the fuel back that it did not smoke at all. It did not matter, the most I could get was 70hp with a M&W turbo. Indirect injection does not mix the fuel and air together like direct injection motors do. I would get a bigger tractor (2255) ha ha you will not go back to a 1600 except for too rake hay. Larry

Larry: The 1600 Diesel and the Super 88 & 880 diesels all use the same sleeves and pistons. The 1600 Diesel was one of Oilver's better tractors.
