I just purchased a 1855 Diesel with over/under trans. The PTO runs continuously and will not shut off. What is wrong? Bad clutch? Any information would be appreciated.

The PTO on an 1855 is activated with hydraulic pressure. The control valve also has a brake position. Now I am trying to remember a couple other things to go along with that,( I will probably think of them later) but if you have a manual you might want to check your adjustment which is a detented position. Questions?

M. Schwiebert thanx for the information and assistance. I need to replace the grease in the back valve as you mentioned. Do I clean out the old grease and repack the housing. How much is enough grease? I am enjoying my Oliver, but the systems are new to me.

J Schwiebert is right it's hydraulically operated. I just recently bought a 1755 gas which had same problem. The linkage was hard to move due to rust.Once loosened up w/ PB blaster it would go to the stop position & engage PTO brake & make sure lever isn't bent.Let us know how it turns out.~brad

That is part of one of the things I was trying to remember, the other part is if you pop the top off that valve there should be grease inside there too. Got to think a little more. Thanks for reminding me.
