Today it was cold and misting rain. Dad and I both have plenty to do around our house's and in the barn. Plenty of Hooney do's left to do after Christmas and the tractors in the barn that we should be working on. Instead he took me for a ride. We drove approx. 125 miles Northwest to Flora, Il. to the littlest Oliver/White dealership I've ever seen. Dad went there years ago to get parts and lo and behold the place is still there and still in business. The business is in the middle of town and the owner's house is right beside the dealership. A one bay double deep shop area and a small parts area that included a Fiche machine. How neat! Most of these type dealerships are long gone! They had a white 2-135 in the shop working on it. In the used lot they had a MFWD workhorse 195 and a silver stripe 2-135 along with a white 14 ft mounted field cultivator and a 6 bottom white plow. The dealership also had a Oliver 551 forklift that was still in use. Along the way we saw a 2-105, a 2-180, and two White 8600 combines. When you go for a ride with Dad, you always have to be on the lookout for White/Oliver equipment. I'm glad we went today, it was great being with and talking with him and seeing a bit of yesteryear. For those of you that might venture into this area the dealership is GERALD KLEIN WHITE FARM EQUIPMENT SALES AND SERVICE 320 N. Elm St. Flora Illinois. 618-662-7538. He may have that old part on the shelf you've been looking for!

Old tractors have a way of bringing fathers and
sons closer together. My dad and I bought a 70
row crop together and you can't keep him off of
it. Thank God for Dads and old tractors.

I would sure take that again but dad passed away, still farming at 85 1/2 4 years ago, almost to the day. Wish he could see this farm and my new grandson. I hope he can.

He put me on a 77 when I was too young to reach the pedals because he needed help on our 300 acre farm in the 50's.

Now I farm with two 1655's, a 5100 planter and a F2 Gleaner because I prefer the Gleaner combine.

I got to visit this store on my journies this summer and glad I did.

You brought it all back with one little post! Don't ever think your posts are not important, you never know who is reading these days!

We still have a store like that in Ohio, McHenry Equipment in Pleasant Plain Ohio. They are very hard to find!

AB Is it the dealer that use to be in Mt.Vernon Ind. I have an 1850 setting in my garage to be a total overhaul. Then theres my IH -H I got it from the original owner 22 years ago still running great. The 1650 is almost perfect, just small oil leek at 3pt.lift shaft into unit. The farm still has the first tractor that was bought,37 Hart-Parr 70, on full steal was a hoot going down gravel road with front mount cultivator, it only has 4 gears forward. Better get off of here 5:30 gets here quick. Boco

We live near Mt. Vernon and did a lot of business with our dealer here. The old dealer that I was thinking of over near you was MUHS. I like to visit that place too.

I'm near Mt. Vernon. I thought I was alone down here but it seems I've got some good Oliver neighbors not to far away! Maybe I'll run into you sometime. If you pull anywhere close I'd love to come see your tractor.

That shop sounds alot like our old Oliver dealer- Dosdall Implement. They quit selling new tractors in 1986, but they are still open, and they do a top notch job repairing! What they did there was build the house onto the side of the shop- interesting setup as well. They are located in RR Goodhue, MN. I am hoping dad and I go look at a 6145 White this weekend at Lake Henry Implement- from what I hear, they are quite interesting as well.
