This afternoon I was fortunate enough to purchase a complete non running NF 1650 Oliver diesel for a bargain price. Now for a couple of questions.

#1 Could this non running tractor be safely towed or will I ruin the rearend"?My trailer isnt quite heavy enough to haul it so I thought about putting the front end up on the trailer and using the trailer as a dolly to tow the tractor 45 miles home at 20-25 mph.It has sound 18.4x34 rear tires.

#2 Will this 1650 rear end bolt up to my 1967 model 1950 Oliver's (4-53 Detroit) engine tub?I need to lighten my 1950 down to 8,000 lbs for tractor pulling and the 1650 rear should do the trick.

No, the rear from the 19 will not bolt up to the 16, and vice versa. The 15's and 16's are interchangeable with each other, and then the 17's on up. I wouldn't want to tow it either. I'd get a towing company with a flat bed truck to haul it. It may cost a couple bucks but it's cheaper than risking damage to the rear end. Donovan from Wisconsin

If I were you, I would fix up that 1650 over trying to swap in onto a 1950 front end. I dont think it will match up, the 1650's were unique in areas, and I am guessing they are in frame bolt patterns as well. And besides, that rear end is made for about 70 horse.

I think that if you unhook the chain coupler, which is easy to do on a 1650, and put the transmission in 6th gear to turn the lube pump you'd be OK.

I can't answer about the rear end swap, but I'd say they are different. WB.

Thanks Wrenchbender. My brother is a tractor mechanic and thinks the same way you do.He says towing it 20-25 mph would be no different than driving it as long as the lube pump is turning.

The tractor is pretty sad and will probably be parted out.Exhaust has sat uncovered for 4-5 years,Cows trampled the sheet metal, etc. Was parked because of a blown head gasket??

Thanks for the other replies.
