Saw a really nice 4-16 546 plow sell today near Plymouth WI for $225 at auction. Was really a shame to see it sell that cheap, bought a 566 last year for $450, the wife wouldn't have been real happy to see me bring home another one. Just thought I would let everyone know about this latest Oliver at auction.

We recently bought a 565 5 bottom. Rough on paint but recent wear parts. I paid more than most I've seen out of state. When compared to driving hundreds of miles away and buying one at scrap prices and then driving back I'm ahead. It was delivered and the seller helped me set it up correctly behind my 1850. I'm turning over land that had been idle.

The only use for plows around here (NW IA) anymore is to build back up broad based terraces every 5 years or so. Almost every farmer has one from years ago, so they go for scrap price. Haven't seen an entire field plowed in 25 years.

Talked to one guy bidding on a plow, he was going to take it and make a hydraulic press out of it. No idea how it went.

very few people plow around here any more . chisel plowing is getting less and less also , more non till every year . pull type plows 2 and 3 bottom bring more money ( people by them to play with at a plow day ) than bigger semi mounts . friend of mine saw a wore out john deere 3 bottom bring $ 250 2 weeks ago . he thought somebody was to be poed when he saw what his wife drug home

Saw a 566 sell yesteday for scrap. It wasn't bad but wasn't great. The highes price oliver 5 bottom I've seen sell here in eastern Iowa was $400 but it was shed kept all it's life and had levelers and the rest of the good stuff. Other than that $225 seems to be the top spot for anything useable.

Too bad you don't live in Michigan. Was at an auction a few weeks ago where a 4 bottom semi-mounted Oliver went for $125. I wanted a small 2 bottom, and the two they had went for $275 and $575.

A couple things to keep in mind on these prices- first off, now days not many people want a semi mount plow- collectors typically like pull types, and farmers want the high clearance ones(if they even want a moldboard plow anymore). Also, as I basically said, this model isnt the high clear. I guess for me, I couldnt get too excited about any plow thats not high clear, because I dont like getting out to clear trash if I am plowing. My two cents...

Around here the last 2 sales I have been to 4 and 5 bottom plows either get no sale or they sell for scrap.

I think I better take the trailer and come to some of the auctions in your area.

Last time I drove by Yoder & Frey they had several decent looking Oliver & White plows plus other brands in the auction rows. Give them a call at 419 445 2070. Now the comment that was posted above on the high clearance plows that was posted above has kind of reversed itself. You needed the clearance to plow corn stalks. Now with no till drills the only thing that gets plowed is wheat stubble and the occasional hay field that is being torn up. At home there has no been a field plowed for over 20 yearsa. Stubble is all riped with a conservation tool which is rented, cheaper than owning it and a big tractor. They want you to have residue on top now, not bare plowed soil.
