Corn planter story - South Bend plant

Most all the corn is planted here in S.Indiana except for the river bottoms. We finally got some much needed rain today. Dad tells me this funny story and I had to share it with you. In the late 70's Dad and a neighbor order new white corn planters. This was done in the winter months. There was a delay at the plant and planting season is ready to start. Still no planters. Finally South Bend plant calls and says the planters are ready. Dad and the neighbor drive to South Bend(a long haul from home)to pick them up and avoid any further delay. When they get to the shipping docks, the clerk says the planters aren't ready. Dad says he about blew a gasket. So the clerk leads him through the big open offices filled with white collared employees to one of the plant managers. The manager explains to Dad the planters aren't ready and that he (my father) "just don't understand big business." Well, that really made Dad angry and he stated he raised his voice and said,"I might not understand big business, but I know when it's time to plant corn!" Dad says the whole office got quiet, the manager got on the phone, and soon led him down to the assembly line. The planters were ready except the marker units were not painted. They ended up taking the planters and the unpainted markers home with them after bargaining on the price. It must have been quite a show!

That's a great story. And a classic example of a company not fully understanding the customers. Thanks for sharing it.
