Hey guys I am more into AC and MM, but need to know some info on Olivers - looking at 2 tractors and trying to determine what they are. First is Specification 18-4308 tractor 41 554-801 may be 41 534. Second is 18-0061 Tractor 25 680-801. I have most of the readily available books on Oliver and can't seem to find anything that explains Specification codes. Also is there an easy way to determine by Specification if a tractor is a factory High Crop? Best. Ed

Chris has written an excellent article about the super 88's in the latest HPOCA magazine.

If you look close at the page about ordering a super 88, you will see the different spec. #'s on most of the models. This includes the high crops.

They are both Super 88 model tractors. The codes for the Super 88 models are different than the later one. They both have the regular instead of slow speed ring and pinon. One is a 1955 the other a middle aged 1956 tractor. Questions?

Thanks for info - is there a book or table that explains the Specification numbers? What is best reference on Olivers - I currently have about 20 AC, 6 MM, 3 Case, 3 MH, and in process of buying my first Oliver. Oh by the way I have 1 each JD and IH, but I try to stay away from the lighter green$$.

First of all not all Oliver's have Specification numbers. Like I said before the system has changed. Notice the Older Super 88 only has two digits. The other 2 were zero's. I have seen an earlier Super 88 that only had one digit. Notice the 56 already has four digits. Later on they used five digits. I don't use a book. I worked for a good dealer and I have 90=% of these answers in my head yet.
