Grandpa traded in a Oliver 70 in 1955 for a Super 88 diesel. Dad says they thought they were "big time" when that tractor was delivered. Dad says none of his friends at school believed him when he told them it started and ran on Diesel only. I can remember riding on the tractor with Grandpa cultivating corn. Once while riding on the tractor with him, I fell asleep and he made me get off and walk back to the house. I think I cried the whole way home. Of all the Oliver tractors my Dad has owned from the little 550 to the mighty 2255 and most all models in between, this Super 88 was always his favorite. Dad traded the tractor off in the mid 70's. He remembered where it went though and we bought it back in the late 90's from a retiring farmer in the Northern part of the county. It was in sad shape and we brought it home and parked it. Well, we decided to restore it this winter. Any tips/advice will be welcomed. I will post some pics from time to time as progress is made. I did find one old picture of the tractor, soon after it was delivered. I'm thinking this is going to be like Don's 1600 project. A family heirloom that's gonna be costly but worthwhile!

Good deal,I am restoring my 1955 Super 88 this winter.I have already been sanding and sanding. That is one long hood on an 88 tractor. Those side panels of mine had some small dents that have taken some time to hammer and dolly them out but are starting to look good.Is there any cracks in the side shields on yours? There were a few in the corners of mine.Get you a good pressure washer for the inside of the frame and down by the bellhousing, thats where mine is the most filthy.Jack(TN).

If you have a checklist for Oliver S88D, I would be interested. I have a 1956 in Row Crop Standard configuration that needs a lot of TLC and part$ to make it right. Especially need photos of engine sides & front showing correct plumbing. PO put on a lot of stuff incl water heater and power steering that are all wrong - and I think he modified fuel filter system as well as water plumbing - just don"t know what it should look like. prefer to receive email off forum.
