Steel vs. copper fuel lines

Those steel diesel fuel line assemblies (drip) -(the small ones) give me fits leaking all the time at the fittings/tees. A mechanic told me that replacing with copper would be a fix as copper seals better at the fittings. However, I've also heard that copper tubing has no place on a tractor as it will break down over time. With fuel prices so high and new paint a coming, I'm trying to eliminate all leaks. What do you guys think?

I don't KNOW this is a fact but I would assume there are different alloys of copper tubing for different aplications. Some would be more vibration resistant, or more tolerant to the fluids flowing through them. Copper was probably frowned on in the past as the old fuels contained sulfur compounds (especially diesel) which attack copper.

The last new ones I ordered for my SUPER 88 10-20 years ago from White were copper.

I had a set of lines in my hands a couple of years ago and they were copper. I would also guess you know the correct way on how they are placed on the tractor. You price a set and you want to set down. I would make two wooden blocks and use the wooden blocks for a "die" so to speak so the all look like they should when you bend them. J.

Thanks to all. I think I will make my own out of copper.
