I guess they didn't learn the first time on the JD 330, they are rare but I am thinking if you want to sell it put the starting bid a bit lower and work up there. I am a JD collector but I have no desire to pay that much for one.

As for the Oliver collection, I agree with other i believe a privite auction would make them more money. Not many people want to buy the whole collection at one time.

I don't think either one is worth the money. The JD deal is obviously where two fools meet; As for the Olivers, as has been mentioned, there's really nothing earthshaking there, and $75 K would be closer to the mark, presuming you could find anyone who wants 29 tractors and has the wherewithall to haul them home. If anyone bites, I'll put in a standing offer on the OC 12 for substantially more than the per-tractor average price.

Are you serious? Do you really want an OC-12 and are you located in Washington state? What are they worth?

They're probably worth about 12 dollars and 79 cents- but I might be talked out of a little more than that. Where are you, and what ya got?

What a hoot! With all the worldwide folks on this board, it turns out you are about 2 miles from where I would be using the crawler (end of Literal Road, off North Fork- Eddie/ Myrna Reynolds old place). I'll give you a call, and come take a look.

Sorry! I did not make that clear. That's not me selling the OC-12. I saw it advertised shortly before you said you were looking for one. Looked like a match made in heaven. Had to go back and find the ad. Just trying to help. I don't know any more about the OC-12.

Went and looked last night- Its been in the shed a good long time, but not too bad, overall. I need a "workin' Cat" right now, have too many projects already. Don't imagine it will get snapped up real soon, so may be a retirement project in a couple of years. Thanks for the heads up. BTW- where was the ad? Capital Press?

The collection is only what someone is willing to pay for it. I agree that they should go with an independent auction. I don't see who the buyer would be? Most Oliver collectors already have the usual tractors and $125,000 is a little steep for the novice. Personally I think they should have started it around $40-$50,000 to see if there was any interest.

Obviously the JD is worth more. Someone actually paid $125k for it. The runner up bidder thought it worth nearly that much. The Oliver collection won't get a bid. It's not worth anywhere near that much. At a glance I don't think there is much more than 90K there and to buy a lot you would expect to get a deal. Other than a Super 44 and an old style 88 I don't see anything worth getting excited about. Mostly stuff you could buy every day the week for $2500 on average. Anybody else take a guess at what it's worth. What's rare about an 80 Row Crop? It's not diesel. (I'm really asking.) Did I miss something really good in there?

Other than price there really is no comparison. It's the classic case of quality verses quantity. Quality always wins.

I did the armchair appraisal and came up with $94,000 so I guess we are pretty close. Since we obviously value some things differently I will buy all of the 2500 dollar Super 99 6 cyl diesel and 660 tractors you can round up on a daily basis. How many trucks should I send? Those pretty common in your area? Seriously I will take all I can get at that average price for complete, running tractors like the ones in the E-bay ad. You can include any 950's too. Call me, 309-737-6891, day or night. I'm interested.

I believe you miss read my post Blaine or you would not have poked fun it. I clearly said "most" leaving room for the some of the exceptions like the ones you mentioned. Or perhaps you don't understand the concept of averaging? Did you notice that included in the list of 29 tractors were some chassis? Non-running parts tractors that bring the average way down. Seriously, do you know how to use the photo ad on this web site? Using an average price of $2500 I counted 9 currently for sale in the photo ads of this web page. Check you local paper and you can probably find a couple more. If you will take all you can get you better have a couple of trucks rolling. Yes, Super 99s do seem to be common in my area. The local show has about 5 of them in attendance. I have a Super 99 6 cylinder chassis you can have for $2500. Or less.

Yes I did notice the chassis for which I allowed a value of 250 dollars each. I arrived at the sellers average by droping those off and dividing by 27. My value was arrived at by assigning a value to each of the tractors, site unseen, so at best it's a guess. Of course I understand averaging or I wouldn't have managed to stay in farming the last 25 years.

I took your post at face value. You said nothing much there but the Super 44 and old style 88, which is a below average 88 in my book in this particular case. I can only read what you type. Having never been to your area I can't possibly guess at conditions there. Perhaps Super 99's are growing on trees out there and have little value if they're not a big, bad, GM. In previous posts it seems 660's have little value out there too. Both of these would be considered highly collectable in the midwest.

Anyway, if I hurt your feelings I am sorry. We all view things differently and that's a good thing. If I come and visit you I can really appreciate what you have collected because I'm sure It's different than what I have. And if you're ever in eastern Iowa I hope you will consider stopping by. We are only a couple miles off of I-80.

BLANE.

It does not seem to me that you took my post at "face value". In fact, you even went so far as to misquoted me. I did not say "nothing much there but the Super 44 and old style 88". My post is in writing. It's right there. Please try reading it again. You will see I wrote "Other than a Super 44 and an old style 88 I don't see anything worth getting excited about." The "I" would be as in me. Not you. Or anybody else. If you really like Super 99 6 cylinders and 660s that's great. It really is. I did not say they were only worth $2500 either. I said "Mostly stuff you could buy every day the week for $2500 on average". A few you couldn't. Obviously, the Super 99 and 660 are going to be worth more and it does not matter were you live. But still if you consider that some are worth as little $250 per your own estimate that means others could be worth as much as $4750. On average. Considering some of those other tractors are only worth $1500 you could pay even more for some of the really good ones and still stay within the average.

As for myself I already have a 6 cylinder Super 99 and prefer the GM engine so a Super 99 6 cylinder does not excite me. 660s are great but I would rather have a 66. Especially if it was diesel but that's just me. Each to his own.

Although it does not hurt my feeling I think comments like "Perhaps Super 99's are growing on trees out there" are very condescending and unnecessary. As I said before you misread my post and you are still misreading it. Even misquoting me this time. Have I disrespected you or done something to offend you in some way?

I agree with you. Maybe the early 88 is relatively rare also. Even so, if they really wanted to sell for the most money, they would have a professional auction service handle it. If they need to sell right away as a lot, they would have a much, much lower opening bid. They could still have a reserve on it, but it sure isn't worth $125K....

Is it just me or did I see one of those "mist green" 880s in that lot?

I see they relisted the auction with the starting bid at $50,000 but theres still a reserve. I agree that they should have a sale instead. Some of those would be sure to draw interest like that first year 88, Super 44, 660, and Super 99. Oh yeah, and that mist green 880....
