I am replacing the power lift with hydraulics on 1951 row crop w/ belt pulley. I am getting ready to remove the old input shaft to replace with the one designed for hydraulics. I do have a manual. Any thing else I need to know about or do while I have it torn apart? This is new territory for me. I'll try to post some pics for anybody else that wants to brave this. Thanks for any tips/suggestions.

I did this recently.I used a sawzall with metal cutting blade.Just cover the area around real well for shavings.Cut as close as you can by the bearing.Saved $125 on new shaft and alot of time.

You don't have to remove that shaft to shorten it for use with hydraulics. Once you have that power lift removed you will see a support for the center (input) shaft that will need to be removed. Then, with the transmission oil drained out, start the tractor & let it idle in neutral. Take a hacksaw blade in a vise grips and hold it against that shaft next to the bearing. You should also try to find something to put underneath the shaft to catch some of the metal flakes. Cut carefully until you're almost through the shaft then shut the tractor off & take the vise grips & break it off the rest of the way. Now take a file & remove any sharp edges. I was taught this by an old Oliver mechanic & have done it that way on both my 77's. Once you have that power lift removed & can see in the top of the transmission you'll see what I mean. Sometimes I have trouble explaining things.

I think I'll take that advice and cut it off. Sure seems easier than pulling that shaft out of two tractors. THANKS A BUNCH!

I did this with an 88 once. Worked just fine.
