I have a 4 bottom 565 plow. I have noticed in the manual and in most literature that originally the hitch used a toplink like a standard 3 pt hitch does. I am going to be restoring this plow and was wondering why this hitch was set-up this way. Someone over the years cut off the top link point on my plow. Does it serve a purpose? Help to hold the rear of plow down, or help hold front wheels on tractor down? Any help with this would be great.

Thanks guys for all the help. I figured it was probably to keep the front wheels down. Seems to plow fine without it, but I also have a loader on the front.

I think that some tractors used the top link on 3 pt for draft control ( MM ? ) and that is why it is on there. About that time frame they were saying that Oliver plows would work on any tractor and some needed the top link hooked up to work right. Chris

Hi, Our thought was always this: If the front end
comes up the top link pivots the arm and the rear
wheel turned thus lifting the bottoms out of the
ground to keep the front end from coming up. ??

My Dad always said it helped to keep the front down, but I didn't se that it accomplished anything. The beauty of the lift arms was it could only go up just so far.

Hi I pulled that same plow around and around the fields of southern Wisconsin for many years and I always had it hooked in place. The only thing I could see its function was to help in keeping the front of the tractor from coming up. Jeff

I"m with evilboweviel, it"s to help keep the front end from going up N over. Our 565 still has it intact but we never hooked up a 3rd link to it. Our 546 has it torched off.

Uncle Carl told me that was to keep the tractor from raring over. removed on all plows I have been around as it made it harder to get the plow started.
