Remotes on 550 Cockshutt

On my 1962 Cockshutt 550 red-belly, I have a set of remotes that I've hooked up to a hydraulic top link. Now when the 3pth is down and I use the remote to extend the top link, the 3ph will rise first before any movement in the toplink occurs. Of course I'd like the toplink to extend even with the 3pth down. I'm thinking that those remotes of that era were designed for use on an implement, not as a toplink and hence a 'saftey' mechanism was used to guarantee the the implement (likely a plow) was raised before the remote was allowed to be activated. Does this make sense or am I missing something? Are there other reasons why this was the design? Or maybe my unit is not working as designed.
Thanks

Doug, the remote valve is plumbed in the hydraulic package such that the 3 point needs to be up before the remote valve gets a full flow of oil. The arms will raise a little if they are down when you move the remote valve. I think the arms will try to raise if you move the remote valve either way if they are not already at the top. It does not say so in the operators's manual, but the 3 point needs to be all the way up to effectively use the remote hydraulics. It is not useful as a top link hyd except to adjust the top link when the 3 pnt is up.
I hope you are enjoying the 550. They are a very good tractor, one of the best Cockshutt made. Very well balanced for their weight for pulling and very well rated in the Nebraska tests.
If you need parts for your 3 point or a PTO shield let me know. I have a little hobby of making 3 pnt hitch parts and PTO Shields for Cockshutts. Neil Grant
