I have an opportunity to buy an Oliver 1250. Decent shape. Good rubber. Runs sometimes. What are the pros and cons on this tractor. The guy will take $1000 for it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I own a 1250 Gas burner and fortunately the engine runs great. I did have to replace the clutches and the rear main crankshaft seal. Personally, I like the size of this tractor and believe it was a good design, other than the Fiat engine. I have checked into parts for it and like another person said...there are NONE! All that being said, you can't buy a decent riding lawn mower for a $1000, and if the engine is okay and the rest works good, I'd say buy it and use it till it breaks and then part it out. Heck, I may still have mine and need some of the parts.

If its a diesel its OK if its a gasser don't buy it as no engine parts can be had for that machine.

I have never owned one, but "word on the board" (from past posts) is that the engine in the straight 1250 is pretty weak. They (Fiat) changed engines in the 1250A, 1255 and 1265, and they supposedly got progressively better. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Could someone also post Danny Boes' web address? He does a lot of parts sales for the imports, and knows them pretty well, I'm told. That being said, doesn't sound like you can get hurt too much, at that price, if it runs at all.
