I will be visiting Charles City and the Floyd County Museum this Friday. Besides the museum, what other interesting things are there to see in this part of Iowa. I want to see the old factory site, where is that located in town. Thanks for all your help.

Check out the Shields International museum in Waverly, about 30 milaes S.E. of Charles City, about 15 miles north of Waterloo. Vernon Shields one of the owners of the Shield Bantam Crane Company which became Koehring Crane and then Terex Crane Waverly did a lot of international travel and brought back do-dads from all over the world.

Hi , If you are thinking about other places concerning tractors I'm not sure there is much close by , but for other attractions there's the Little brown Church in Nashua that was made famous by the song The little Brown Church in The Vale . It's on 346 on the east side of Nashua which is just a few miles south of Charles City on 218/27 . Turn left into Nashua and just stay on that road till you come to the church , you can't miss it . It's about 2 - 3 miles off the interstate . Other than that after twenty years of living here I haven't found much of any interest close by this area . There's a history museum in Waterloo called the Grout museum that's got some good things in it including one of the first Waterloo Boy tractors . I was there a month or so ago and they are showing war art if it's still there . Art made from artillery shells and other spoils of war by the people involved . It was pretty interesting . The museum is just off I-218 in Waterloo across from the John Deere plant . Have Fun ! ...Randy

The old Factory site is in the northeast part of town. If you go all of the way up Main Street you will find it no problem. Sadly there isn"t much to see, just a lot of busted up concrete, weeds, and brush.
