Our Co-Op manager was telling a neighbor that his late father had a baler the family wanted to sell, thought it was an Oliver, and didn't want it to go to scrap. Neighbor tells me about it and I went to look at it right away - just about 5 miles away and I didn't even know it was there! Looks pretty good, always shedded. I made an offer and they accepted. The owner was a neat/particular kind of guy so I believe it to be mechanically sound. Dad and I will go over it this winter (as if we didn't have enough winter projects already!) Anybody out there with experience with this model? Tips/pointers are welcome. I believe I remember J. Meyer saying they still used one. Photo is from the parts manual - maybe some real ones later when I get it home.

I have a 720 baler that is pretty similar. If you have any specific questions then I might be able to answer them. I found that if you follow the manual exactly when it comes to the knotters things seem to work out well. Check to make sure that all the shimming in the knotters is correct also. You will have to check the manual for the correct shear pins. I know on my 720 you have to use the correct grade or they will shear if you get into thick hay.

I also bale with a 720 and a 620. For whatever reason, my 620 is a tad more fussy about making more than 100 bales at a time! As dweaver said, pay attention to spacing shims and general setup. The books are right on. We use plastic twine in both balers with no problems. For production, the 720 will kep up with most any baler out there.
