Hey, I am fixing one of my friends from school's Oliver for them. Its eithier a 88 or a Super 88 (think it is a super) I cant remember what he said. Its wide front, it has the front-end loader, and its gas. well the power steering went out on it and he asked me to look at it, but did the 88 and super 88 have power steering on them? If so what are the details. Mike

It's probably a Gemmer unit. If the unit is mounted below the radiator and has a resivoir/pump on the back of the generator then it is a Gemmer unit.

I think factory power steering (Gemmer unit with pump on back of generator) started in 1956. Alot of Olivers in my area have the Char-Lynn power steering - the Char-Lynn units are easier to get parts for and easier (I think) than the Oliver units.

Could be a Behlen too. They were a popular unit back then.

I don't think it could be original since these tractors were very easy to steer compared to the competition (Farmall M, 400, 450 and JD G or 70). It's most likely an add-on unit.

It could be factory or aftermarket. They are totally different set-ups. Our 1955 Super 88 has aftermarket Char-Lyn brand power steering. Our 1957 Super 88 had factory power steering. If it's factory a I&T # 0-201 manual will cover it.

Let us know what you've got (maybe some pics) and we can help more.
