I'd like to see some pics of that 4-270. How do you like it? I know you said in the past you were looking for one - Congrats on the find.

It will be delivered on thursday afternoon. Been looking for one for a long time . Lots of hours on it, but it was a one owner machine and I had a nice talk with the original owner. He said he bought it in 1985 when White was in the middle of a bankrupcy and the company was just dumping these tractors. He said he paid $49500 .The sad part is the old reliable 4-210 is going down the road after 13 years . Other than chasing oil leaks and being alittle under powered, a dependable workhorse .

Do you guys run a lot of acres or run smaller and play around with these and have more like a colection, or both? Reason I ask is a 4-270 isn't a small tractor, at least not in these parts. I know a local farmer who runs 500 acres and has a number of tractors (two JD 3020s, two 4020s, 4320, 4520, 5020, IH 806 etc) for farm work then they like to collect 1940s and 50s tractors (Farmall H, Oliver 88, MH 44 etc.). Pretty crazy place but they keep most of the stuff indoors.

I have too many Olivers, they aren't all nessesary for sure, but the 20 and 2150 always hit the field. But we make our living with the grey ones. I don't have 8000 acres like some guys but then again the 4-270 is 23 years old and most bigger guys don't want any thing that old. I have a fair amount of acres and haven't started chiseling yet, but I have hauled over 900,000 gallon of liquid gold so far, which will now be the 4-270s' primary job . When thats done we'll see what it will do on the chisel.

Well heck thats alright I don't know any 8,000 acre farms around here. With a 20 and 2150 sounds like a good lineup. Can't go wrong with Olivers nnd Whites!

Yes it is. Now don't tell me all the bad things you know about it the deal is done. Boco, our 210 pulled a 13 shank disc chisel in 3rd over or 4th direct most of the time . The field cultivator worked the snot out of it, and it spent MANY hours on the front of a 4800 gallon slurry tank with injectors throwing out a six inch flame out of the exhaust at night. We didn't baby it much and it held up great. All this with bald tires, always ran out of power, never traction.

I don't know much about that 4-270. I called on it but was too late. Dealer is sopose to give me a call when he gets the 4-210 in. I did not know it was yours he just said it came from Iowa and the tires are worn. I have a 4-180 but it's terribly underpowered and with out a 3 speed, rather unproductive. How big a feild cultivator do you pull and how fast? I would like to make 5.5 mph or more with a 25' 230 white.

Horsepower wise a 4-180 and a 4-210 are the same horsepower. Alot of people think the 4-210 is more, but it's rated at 180 just like the 4-180. The transmission and final drives on the 4-210 are much better than the 4-180. I put a reman 3208 in it about 1600 hrs. back, I should have went with a turbo 3208, just for more hp. The tires are bald, its been a subject of much teasing from everyone, but it still has plenty of traction for the power. I pull a 24' sunflower field cultivator with it about 5.5 -6.0 mph and that's a load.

Glad to here of your find but sad to hear of the departure, still playing with a 4-210 here. I know it's not a 9170 like my brother has, but I've still got the biggest garden tractor in town (no joke) drove a truck with 3208 as a spray truck (55 ft booms) loved it drove like a cadilliac it was quiet could even hear the radio. KK will it pull a 11ft disk chisel OK in what gear? Hope that happens soon. Good luke with you new tractor. Boco in So. Il.
