I have a Marshall that is getting water in the oil. Twice I've had to drain the oil and put new in. Any idea what is causing this? It has sat out through a couple of rains but the exhaust was covered and the air cleaner bonnet is in place so I don't think it came from outside. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sonny

Cylinder liner O rings have failed allowing water to enter the crankcase.
There are 2 o-ring seals at the bottom of each liner.
Assume oil is milky in color?
Remove cyl head, drop oil sump, pullout the pistons and rods, pull cylider liners out and check for pitting on liners and o-ring location
As the rod caps are off-set please note correct location. e-mail me for more advice

Hi Sonny
If you think the water is coming from the inside, disconnect the line from the filter to the main bearing housing. Disconnect just before it goes into the main bearing housing and tie a can to it (to catch the oil and water). You have to run the tractor for this test . As you know, when the piston is pushed backwards it creates pressure in the sump and in turn pushes the waste oil and what ever is in their up to the filter. It is best to remove the filter before doing this test as a good filter might not let the water through . If the water enters from the outside it can only be through the gaskets of the main housing or the gasket for the priming handle .If your air intake valves are cracked or broken you will not got any sump (crankcase) pressure and nothing will go to the filter. also check your non return valve on the bottom of the crankcase. I restore these old tractors and their not that complicated .Contact my at will .Steve

Hi Sonny,

3 reasons: 1: The seal of the cylinder-head is bad 2: Piston rings are down, 3: Piston and Tin is down,
