is the avery model "V" tractor the same as the MM model "V" tractor? all infomation i can dig up indicates so. seems it has the same size engine and was built the same years(late 1940's to early 1950"s). also my tractor book indicates they have the same serial number sequence. sure would be odd for all that if they were not the same. if any of you expert tractor people could help me out with this, it would be greatly appreciated. i would like to be sure of what i'm looking at BEFORE i buy it. i cannot find any tags or serial numbers on the machine, but they may be hidden under paint or grease. where would i look to find the s/n? also does anyone have a picture of these models and could post it so i can compare it with what i have seen? thanks

There is a Antique Tractor Club, the "B.F.Avery Collectors & Associates" that will be having their winter meeting March 15th and 16th in Chesaning, Mich. at the Peet Community Center. If able we would love to have you. There is also a newsletter that is put out every two months that not only has parts for Averys and Cletrac's, but it also has info on different parts of these tractors. To join the club, plese call Connie Lemmon at 517-368-5595. It costs $12.00 a year for a single membership and $15.00 for a couple.
There will also be an auction on Sat. the 16th that generally has a lot of parts for Averys. It is a great club with some of the greatest tractor people in the world.

One of the differences was that the Avery "V" had two piece hub/front wheels, and the MM-"V" had one piece hub/rim all made together. The s/n is stamped into the top of the right hand frame rail, at the clutch housing area. Gene Davis

Here's a link to a site that has some info on the Avery's. On the home page is a picture of the B.F. Avery V. I have a M.M. Avery V, S/N 6V-305, and the only difference that I know of for sure is the front axle and paint. The MM's front axle was changed to a tube weldment that's adjustable width. Mine also has the belt-pulley/pto and hydraulic lift with cultivator. Need a manifold and air-cleaner. Then an engine rebuild. Then paint..... ..... .oh well, to many projects.

I've got a little history page here on the B. F. Avery Company that I made up, more specifically for the Avery model A (and the Cletrac General GG), but it would be of interest to anyone who has an Avery. The model V is mentioned but no details. If you want me to email you a copy, hit the blue email link in this message and I'll send one to you.

I think if you hit on my actual post rather than the strands of replies to your question the blue email link should show up. If you double click on the blue Alberta Mike, you should get me. Anyways, here's my email address separate so if you reply to me, I'll get that page attatched to a regular email to you.

mballash@wci.ab.ca

I'm away for a few hours so I'll get back to you later this afternoon.

Serial # should be stamped into the top of the right hand frame rail at approximately the area of the clutch. BF Avery was absorbed by Minneapolis-Moline and continued to build the V for a few years. Both are virtually the same machine with only minor (except for paint) changes. Hope that helps ya a little.

I just got a "V". I have learned so much from this site. Check under the research &info section (left hand side of the page) for search this site. The zxb-3 has a lot of hits in the stationary forum. You shouldn't have a problem finding manifolds. Please register your machine in the tractor Registry. I will get mine in as soon as I find the Serial # (I think Avery used disolving rivits) I need the mantance manual to find the right lubricants. I don't see why I&T manuals don't have that info.
