I have a Long 560DT that is badly in need of an overhaul and I was wondering if anybody had kits other than the Long dealers. I asked a Long dealer, a year or two ago, about them and was told that you had to bore out the liners after they were installed. I didn't see the sense in that, what's the use of having a liner if you have to bore them out? I just finished helping a neighbor rebuild an IH 784 engine and all the while wishing mine was that easy. I also helped another neighbor rebuild an IH 806 and an IH 986 within the last two years. I'm hoping somebody can tell me the dealer was wrong or of another place to get overhaul kits. Thanks in advance.

Any chance you could install oversize pistons if available. Don't install new sleeves till you run out of sleeves to bore oversize. Then sleeve back to standard and start over.

I never thought about that. I've done enough small gas engines you would think I would have. I'll have to check at the local dealer and see if they have oversize pistons available or if 610's would fit. Is there anywhere I can get a shop manual for that tractor? I'll ask the dealer too but thought there might be a better one than factory.

You might be able to go with 610 pistons, but check closely to sleeve OD and see if you will have enough sleeve thickness.

I have not done this myself. So check dimensions closely before spending money.

The dealer is correct. The liner that comes from Long are a course blank. The outside of them are machined to fit the block, but the inside are as rough as a piece of pipe.

Although a lot of other tractor brand have pre fit linears, they are only as good as the block bore. If the block bore are out of round, so will the sleeve.
