I JUST PUT A CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE IN MY BF AVERY A ONLY THING I DID NOT REPLACE WAS THE PILOT SHAFT .WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING WHEN I PUSH THE CLUTCH IN IT WILL NOT DISENGAGE NO MATTER HOW MUCH I ADJUST IT. WITH THE ENGINE OFF I CAN PUSH CLUTCH IN AND TURN SHAFT BY HAND . RELEASE IT AND IT WILL ENGAGE. HAS ANY ONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM COULD IT BE THE PILOT SHAFT IS WORN ENOUGH TO NOT LET THE DISC SLIDE ON THE SHAFT WITH MOTOR RUNNING

Phillip,

I have a 1950 Avery A that my dad bought when I was 5 yers old. After quite a bit of work it again looks about as good as the day he took it out of the box (ha ha). Reading your 2002 comments about replacing a clutch and pressure plate, where did you get the parts. This is something on my list to do as well since the throw out bearing rattles like a rock in a tin can. Appreciate your response. Royce

My General had the same problem, and the only thing I did different than you when repairing it was I put a new pilot bearing in the flywheel. I used the original pilot shaft. It works fine now.
