Hi,
Today I found a Wain Roy Backhoe cira 65-68 for sale. It has a diesel engine that runs real well. All things seem to work real well with the exception of the transmission. The guy has the tranny in a box. It needs bearings and two gears that I can see. the price is real low ($1500). My question is can I but the parts to rebuild the tranny? I could really use this hoe and I can do most and mechanical repair.

I also am considering purchasing a Wain - Roy backhoe. Its a model 3500D, Serial # 1235, does anyone know how old this baby is?
Can you still get parts?
Does this have the type of diesel that is "basically a converted gas engine" mentioned in another post? My main use is to clear my driveway afetr heavy snows so this is important to me?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Merry Christmas
Joe

Holy Cow!! I thought I was the only one one the planet with a Wain Roy Loader/backhoe!!! I use it for digging out stumps here on the "farm", moving firewood, boulders, etc. I have no idea what year it is, and so far no one has had any info. Any help as to where to get parts, manuals etc would be greatly appreciated!!! It"s a WainRoy Loader/ backhoe,
Model 450, serial # 1112.

Thanks, Joe

KC, I have a 1966 Rustler model with a Ford 172
diesel. Great machine for it's time, but tough to
start in cold weather. It's basically a gas motor
converted to diesel. If yours is the same model,
220, it should have a Funk Revs-o-mat in front of
a 4-speed gearbox. Parts are still available from
most any good trans-supply shop. Wain-Roy used
many parts from old Ford truck stock. Bango rear
diff, front hubs, 4spd trans, front wheels, etc.
were some of the items used. These machines dig
great and were far ahead of anything else on the
market at the time.

Thanks Unimog,
I'm going back over today with my digital camera and snap a few shots. I will also check with a few tranny shops and see what I can find out. Could you tell me where to find the ID tags?
Regards, KC

The serial # on mine is on the side where the step
is, right, on a tag just under the lifting arm
mount. Does yours have the 2 trans as I mentioned
before?

Have wainroy rustler as well, 1963 model 4500 I believe and has 4 cyl. ford industrial engine.
Had to replace 2 stage pump, 2nd stage for power steering. I'm not shure what model and year of
of your machine and if they are the same but I had the pump apart and shafts for gears were held by bushings and not roller bearings which is not
as good.
Pump is made by cessna, And I tried to locate one
but they don't make it anymore.
Original pump is aluminum housing without roller
bearings.
I matched up pump with steel or cast iron housing
and rollerbearing by gallons per min. at a certain
rpm as indicated in manual for pump output.
Went to machine shop to search and matched flow.
Had to alter pump cover to fit new pump.

Need help on locating ring and pinion gear for 1966 wainroy 450. Has Funk transmission as mentioned in earlier post , not sure about the rear end, would it be Ford? Would actually prefer picking up entire rear axle assembly if available.
Any help/info would be much appreciated!
