Hello, Has anyone out there attempted an engine swap on a L175. My dad would like to exchange his stock L175 two cylinder engine with a Garden Tractor G1900 three cylinder engine. The blocks look the same, except where the hydraulic pump is mounted. The pump is bolted to block on the L175 behind the fuel distribution apparatus(I don't know what this is called). The G1900 also has three mounting holes tapped behind the Fuel distribution apparatus, but the bolt pattern is different. So if the swap is possible, he would also need a hydraulic pump, or a part number for one to mount onto the G1900 engine if a pump could be mounted there.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Richard Inzana

I did a swap somewhat like yours. Check to be sure there is a drive for the hydraulic pump. The engine I used was from a refrigeration unit and had a different govenor and no splines for the hyd pump. I had to use all the parts fom the original engine. Gov springs, arms, shaft etc. The block did bolt to the trans. The "G 1900" doesn't ring a bell. They used a smaller series engine in some of the mowers that is altogether different and probably won't fit. The bigger 3's and 4's are the same on the back as the twins.

Thanks Dennis, I sent that info to my dad. The G1900 is really a Garden Tractor, but I call it a big Lawn Mower, since it has a belly deck. I think the motor is a 18hp 3 Cyl. and the cutting deck on the mower is a 54". He just bought a 6 foot finishing deck for the L175, but the motor can't turn the blades and pull the deck at the same time. So he came across two G1900 tractors for $ 1500.00, one running, one in parts, so he figured it might be worth a shot to put the larger engine into his L175. Thanks again for the help.
