Lanz Bulldog Lubrication question

An old friend was discussing the Lanz 2-cycle diesel the other night, and we both got curious about
how the main and rod bearings and piston were lubricated on those engines.

The 2 cycle configuration is a dry sump engine.

Can anybody tell me just how did they do it?

I just learned they were lubed much like a Harley... the oil was drawn from the bottom of the crankcase and returned to a tank.

The lanz bulldog has two oil reservoirs. One has clean oil which is fed to the mains and rod bearings. this oil runs down onto a sump and is pumped back up to the other reservoir. this oil is then fed to lubricate the piston and cyllinder and then it gets burnt. On a good day a lanz woll burn up to a gallon of oil.

The process is very similar to the one used in the Harley Motorcycles. The oil is fed to the rod bearing under pressure from a pump. It is filered as it enters the oil tank on the top. When it collects in the sump it passes through a screen and is pumped up into the tank from the sump. I have books that show the system but it is all in german. About the Lanz Bulldog lubrication: I just read that only the lubrication of the bearings is mentioned, but surely the piston has to be lubricated as well! The bearings get clean oil from the tank, but once this oil is "used" it passes the screen at the bottom of the crankcase and is filtered before it gets into the special used-oil compartment of the tank. From here this oil is used again for lubricating the piston through the wall of the cilinder. Some of the oil is forced through a hole in the piston and gets to the small-end of the connecting rod. The big-end is lubricated through the crankshaft with clean oil that leaks out of the left crankshaft-bearing and falls into a ring thats bolted to the crankshaft and directs the oil to a hole in the crankshaft that ends at the big-end. Because of the distance between the beginning and the end of the pipes, one has to turn the crankshaft in the wright position, so that the hole in the piston also gets oil, and turn the oilpump by hand for 160 - 180 revs when the engine hasn't been used for more then two days. Then you can start the enigine after heating the hot-bulb or by running it on a mixture of diesel and petrol and using electric ignition.

the main tank feeds the oil to the 2 main bearings and feeds one to the big end centrafugally thropugh the crank shaft this rotateing feeds the big end under pressure the oil wasted in the sump is pumped to the second tank and used to lubricate the piston and little end.
