I am in the process of buying a 1950 Hough HA Loader. I have conflicting estimates of the weight of this unit and I need to know the weight for transport. Anybody actually have an actual number from a spec. sheet or manual?

Thanks,

James C.

I've got a Hough HA also. The HA got heavier somewhere during production, I'm not sure what year. Don't know when it was first produced either. It seems to be the smallest loader that Hough built. I have a copy of a sales brochure, dated 9/25/48, that says it weighs approx. 4500 lbs. Also have a parts list from Jan. 1954, (serial #23500 thru 26899, which covers mine), which doesn't give the weight, but the appearance of the loader is somewhat different from the 1948 brochure. The frame is quite a bit heavier. Have a sales brochure from 3/60, that says weight is now 5150 lbs for the gas version (diesel now available, 5350 lbs.). My HA, serial #24375, appears more like this later version, with the exception of the lifting mechanism, including lift cylinders, which are still like the older models.
So depending on which year you have, I'd say it weighs between 4500 and 5350 lbs. Would it happen to have the fork-lift attachment? That was an option. It is just a set of forks that replaces the bucket. I'm rebuilding/restoring mine for use as a forklift to use indoors at a machine shop. If I can't find original forklift attachment (unlikely), I'll just make my own, using forks from a junkyard forklift. Good luck.

Stan-in-AL,

Thanks a lot for the info. I had heard that a model 25 was the smallest?

I did notice that the later models identified as Hough HAs were bigger and had a different lift design. This flyer from 1955 advertises a "New" model HA with twice the lifting/digging/carrying capacity.

I have not seen any HAs, as you describe yours, that have the size of the later models with the lift design of the older models. Perhaps a transitional model between 1950-1954?

Sorry, I can't help with the forklift attachment.

Thanks Again,

James C.

The sales brochure I have from 3/60 shows the HA and the H-25. The HA says 2,000 lbs operating capacity, the H-25 2,500 lbs. H-25 weight about 1000 lbs more, has powershift-trans, a little more hp, looks almost the same as the HA. Which type is yours? Have serial number? Does it run? Good luck with it.

The model is a HA Serial #22901. It is supposedly in good shape with new paint, new seat, good hydralics, recent engine overhaul. I have not picked it up yet.
