I am trying to find information on tractors sold by Sears (I Think) they have a Model A four cyl engine and transmission. Some kind of truck rear end and a frame made from Channel Iron. I think they were made in Ill. and could be bought assembled or as a kit. I would love to find one to restore---Thanks

I believe you are refering to the Sears Economy. It was made with a rebuilt Model A ford engine. A fellow not too far from here restored one. He usually shows it at the NY State fair.

My Dad told me that his brother had a "David Bradley" Sold by Sears. It was a good tractor but hard to get parts. Parts came from Sears. If they had provided a list of the manufacturers (engine etc.) Some of those parts might have been available at local dealers and the tractor might have sold better. I can't follow up on that as my Dad & Uncle are both gone. I do recall a Nebraska plowing test c.1920s that listed a David Bradley as having the highest drawbar to weight pulling ratio for that year. I do know that David Bradley was indeed a Sears brand as I have a chainsaw with that information.

A gentleman you might want to try to contact
would be Lynn Klingaman . He lives in Columbia
City, Indiana, and is fairly knowledged about
the Sears 'Economy',(which would match the tractor
that you are describing). Hope this helps. pb
