I just found a Hough Payloader sinking into the ground last weekend and thought it would make a nice machine around our hobby farm. The owner cannot find the model, it is a small loader. The motor is a four cyl. Waukesha 180GLB that I called and they faxed me the original build sheet on it today. It was built in 1958 for the Frank G Hough Co. Can anyone give me history or any info on this little unit? Very little is available on the websites that I have searched. I cannot even find a picture of the thing anywhere to try to identify the model. I am concerned about it's automatic transmission and if it were to ever break are parts available? Thanks!
-Dan

Hough was bought out by International Harvester in Novenber 1952, is now owned by Komatsu Dresser Equipment Company, they have reproduced many of the manuals and parts books. Check in your area for a dealer, most are helpful. They may be able to get some parts too.

I think that HOUGH sold out to I.H. long before J.I. Case bought them. I have seen a few pictures of older Hough Loaders at this web site that you may want to look at. www.machinerytrader.com Do you have any pictures of your's yet?

Sounds like a Model HA Payloader, 2000 lb. carry capacity, front wheel drive, rear-wheel steering. Seems like alot of people including me have recently discovered these interesting machines and there isn`t alot of information that is easy to find right now, I am looking for information on a Model HF Payloader that I would like to restore. You might look on www.bigtoy.com website for info. John

You will find that the small Hough Payloader is a model H25 which had a Waukasha 180 OHV engine and automatic transmission. It was mainly used in foundries or factories to load and/or unload bulk material in tight spots such as railroad cars.
