I don't know anything about them either, but Antique Power Magazine had a story in their May/June 2000 issue which tells all about David Friday building tractors and his partnership with Love. According to it, Friday built about 25 tractors in the war years. In 1947 he had made about 200 O48 tractors. The 1947 tractors didn't have a serial number, but beginning in 1948 they did. It was stamped into the frame behind the right front wheel. The first 2 numbers were the year and the next 2 were the number of tractor built that year. (ex. 4810 would be the tenth tractor built in 1948, some of the early ones only had 3 digits - 485-the fifth tractor built in '48) Between 1947 and 1960 143 Friday Orchard tractors were built, with a variety of Chrysler 6-cyl. industrial engines but no major changes. They sold for $1840 new. (Don't know what they would sell for today!) Dave Friday invented a wide range of farm equipment through the years. Quite an interesting story. Hope this helps!

Paul Zoschke of Mn wrote that article. He wrote
an article on Love tractors in the Sept/Oct 1997
issue of Antique Power which discusses a little of
the relationship between Mr. Friday and Mr. Love. It's interesting to have both issues and com-
pare the late 1947-1948-1949 Love and Friday
tractor pictures. Hard to tell the orchard models
apart.

If you want to know about Friday's, don't read Paul Zoshke's article. He could have done a little more research. I would LOVE to see where he got his information from, because not all of it jives. 115 tractors produced...Whatever...Come to Berrien County Michigan, and I will SHOW you 115 Fridays still being used plus 30 more rotting away. I know the man who was one of, if not the head engineer who worked for David Friday for years. If there are actual registry cards, there are not right because this man witnessed the entire box of cards being burned. In fact, he tried to secretly save them. That article, while well written, is not factually correct. Nothing against Mr. Zoshke. I don't even know the man. I grew up 10 miles from where those tractors were made. I have owned a few along with a few Loves. I have yet to see a serial numered Friday. Loves were SN'ed behind the r.f. wheel on the frame. They had nothing to do with Dodge trucks. They had a Chrysler Ind. 6 with a Ford AA Truck Transmission (varied by availability) and a dual speed International rear end (few very early ones could have had a Timkin) . Loves had a Timken rear end. Fridays had fenders. Loves had Pipes. I have never heard of ANY evidence proving Love and Friday as "friends." Love and Dent Parrett were tied in, I believe, at one point in time. Maybe I've bit off more than I can chew here and if I have stepped on some toes, I apoligize because I certainly didn't mean it. If I can help anybody with their Friday questions or Love questions, feel free to write. AC. PS- There are many good stories not mentioned like when Friday got out of the tractor business, he would not sell his surplus drivetrains...he buried them.

I have a hydraulic pruning lift that, I'm told, was manufactured by Friday Tractor Company. It is a PTO (540) driven, two wheeled trailer with a basket lifted by two cylinders and rotated by two more underneath. It came from Wayne County, NY. I got it to help me with barn painting. I'm trying to find specs such as pump output and reservoir capacity. The current pump is overheating. Thanks

AC, please contact george.randall@the-spa.com regarding your comments on Friday Tractors. Is the head engineer for Friday Tractors still alive? I have confirmed the buried surplus items.

I'm no expert, but I'll tell you what I know. I know they were made in Hartford Michigan. Many different models, all that I've seen based on Dodge truck parts. Many orchard, tree trimmers, etc. I think the most common model is something like an 048. Cut-down Dodge truck with a hood. 4 or 5 speed trans with 2 spd. rear end, Dodge motor. You can make these do about 65 mph. One helluva ride!
